LeafHistory

fThe construction of Foxhill started in the early 1860s on instruction by Rev Richard Greenall, who was Rural Dean of Frodsham. He died before the building was complete and the first owner was a leather merchant from Liverpool called James Reynolds. A succession of four more families lived at Foxhill when in 1960, it was sold to Dr. Lawrence Pilkington and his wife Norah.

When their daughters moved away, the House was too large for the two of them, and they kindly donated it to Chester Diocese for use as a Conference and Retreat Centre. Ten sets of ‘wardens’, usually married couples, have since managed and developed the House.

The present wardens, Ian and Sue Cameron, started work in 1996 and have overseen the construction of a new extension and improvements to the accomodation rooms.

Foxhill - New and improved

The refurbished, re-equipped and extended Foxhill – our spiritual retreat and conference centre – was reopened and rededicated in July 2009.

In an afternoon of thanksgiving and celebration, attended by the Archbishop of York and 130 guests, the house and gardens went on show with guided tours taking place. The guests, which included our two suffragan bishops and two archdeacons, were shown the refurbished bedrooms – all now have ensuite bathrooms – and the impressive conference facilities, which include a new room that can accommodate 100 people.

What's Happening? What’s Happening?

If you have never been to Foxhill, you have a chance to do so on Thursday February 16th, when Foxhill will be open for guests from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. to do as they wish. Spend the day relaxing, meditating, reading or praying. If the weather allows, explore the 70 acres of woodland. The chapel will be available all day for private reflection, and a Eucharist will be celebrated there at 12 noon, for those who wish to attend. A simple soup and fruit lunch will be served and coffee and tea will be available throughout the day.
There will be no charge, although donations will be gratefully accepted. Please contact Foxhill by phone (01928 733777) or email (foxhill@chester.anglican.org) to book a place,so that we know how many to cater for
